After Express report, Delhi CM Kejriwal orders sports facilities to remain open till 10 p.m.

All sports facilities under the Delhi government will remain open until 10 p.m., Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Thursday.

Sisodia was referring to a report by The Indian Express that athletes and coaches at Delhi’s government-run Thyagraj Stadium complained that they were forced to end training at 7 p.m., which is earlier. than usual, like Delhi Principal Secretary (Revenue) Sanjeev. Khirwar walks his dog to the facility about half an hour later.

“Reports have informed us that some sports facilities are closed earlier which is inconvenient for sportsmen who wish to play until late at night. CM Arvind Kejriwal has ordered that all Delhi government sports facilities remain open for sportsmen till late night. 10 p.m.,” Sisodia tweeted.

The officials said the chief minister’s office took note of the report and Kejriwal said athletes should not suffer from the lack of training facilities and sports facilities should make accommodations for them according to their schedule.

The Delhi BJP, meanwhile, demanded that action be taken against Khirwar. Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor has called on LG and Kejriwal to open an investigation against the officer.

“This case of a senior official abusing his administrative power to reserve the stadium for daily walks with his dog is very serious. Please investigate and suspend Officer Sanjeev Khirwar,” Kapoor tweeted, tagging LG Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief Minister Kejriwal.

In Delhi, the Department of Services like Land, Law & Order and Police fall under the Center through the LG. Transfers, assignments, grievances as well as disciplinary measures are handled by the LG.
